Travelling Solo to the Isle of Wight
Travelling Solo to The Corner House in Ventnor
I have never travelled on my own for 2 nights without my family in tow, and I definitely haven’t crossed the water and left them on the mainland.
Now I have ‘survived’ the experience of travelling solo, I wanted to let you know – it was a breeze!
So, traditionally, The Corner House is a romantic bolthole located right in the heart of Ventnor, Isle of Wight. The amazing bath in the bedroom and other nods to coupledom, works just as well if your riding solo too. I enjoyed every second of the peace and quiet. The Corner House is relaxing, cosy and an excellent choice for someone choosing to travel solo (as well as all you romantic couples!).
The journey over on the ferry may seem quite daunting at first, but it really is simple. I set sail from Portsmouth, drove straight up to a lovely man who directed me to my queue, drove onto the ferry and then sat back and enjoyed the 45 minutes journey across the Solent. Read, play on your phone, listen to music or just watch the sea…. It’s a very relaxing way to arrive on the Island.
Ventnor is approximately half hour from the ferry terminal. With it’s very own micro climate, you are in for a treat.
Visiting in Winter
I visited on a wet and windy weekend in January, but I still enjoyed some good weather in Ventnor. The other bonus to visiting in January – it’s quiet. Quite a few things do close for the winter months, but there is still a lot that remains open. And, there is always the beach. That never closes for business.
There are plenty of choices to eat out in Ventnor, and I found quite a few suitable for dining alone. Cafes, small restaurants and of course, fish and chips by the sea. Having said that, I ate in several evenings. The Corner House had a fully stocked kitchen that allowed me to rustle up meals with relative ease.
I indulged in a bit of shopping. Charity shops and antique shops are great on the island. There are also plenty of handmade crafts, photography and boutique shops to try out.
I walked for miles, the Island really does have the best coastal path.
I saw bikes for hire…… but I also brought my book with me and a cheeky bottle of red. Maybe I’ll try the cycling routes out next time.
Isle of Wight. Not just for families.
The Corner House. Not just for romance.
